Books, an imprint of Uldune Media, is seeking submissions for SIRIUS B:
Canadian Speculative Fiction.
Submission
Window: November 6, 2026 to December 4,
2026
Length: 2,500 to 5,000
words (short story length)
This
is an anthology open ONLY to Canadian authors (citizens or permanent residents)
and IS open to the entire supragenre SPECULATIVE FICTION (that means fantasy,
horror, weird, and even science fiction).
We are not accepting reprints; this anthology is open ONLY to original
works that have not been published anywhere else, including on websites and
author newsletters. Authors can make ONLY a single submission to this
anthology. Yes, you can make a single
submission to SIRIUS B: Canadian Speculative Fiction and another single
submission to SIRIUS A: Canadian Science Fiction.
We
are looking for 20 to 26 short stories for this anthology.
On
the term Speculative Fiction... Much as
I admire her, I do not accept Margaret Atwood's definition as definitive. Speculative Fiction is the "umbrella"
supragenre that all literature of the fantastic falls under. Space opera, urban fantasy, gothic horror,
weird, sword and sorcery, cyber/atom/bio/diesel/steam/etcetera-punk,
contemporray horror, epic fantasy, sword and planet, hard science fiction, social
science fiction, and so on. They all fit
here.
Payment
Payment
comes in two parts, and in two forms.
Payment on acceptance is $0.01 CAD per word and signing of a contract
with Uldune Media/Ddyn Books. This will
be paid by PayPal or by Wise.
Upon
publication, additional payment is by revenue share. The share percentage will
be finalized once all authors are contracted for the anthology. Payments are
made monthly. Further details provided upon acceptance. Payment will be administered by Draft2Digital.
If you do not have a D2D account, you will need to set one up, along with your
payment information.
Rights
We
are asking for world first serial print rights, and ebook rights, with a
twelve-month exclusive period. We are also asking for non-exclusive rights
after the initial twelve-month period so the anthology can remain in print.
After the first twelve-months’ exclusive period, you are free to sell reprint
rights or self-publish.
Authors
will be asked to sign a short contract with Uldune Media/Ddyn Books that
outlines these rights and expectations.
Promotion
While
the publisher will be marketing and promoting the anthology. The success of revenue share projects lies in
the authors’ cross-promotions to their readers and social networks.
Manuscript Format
Please
use the William Shunn Modern Format for your manuscript. Details can be found here.
Manuscripts
that do not follow these guidelines, and are too difficult to read (e.g.,
papyrus 9 point font in purple ink), will be rejected.
How to Submit
We
are accepting electronic submissions only. Details TBD.
We
will be reading all submissions and making offers by January 22, 2027 at the
latest.
